Midthunder is part of the Fort Peck Assiniboine Tribe. She was born on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico, and eventually went back there following a large portion of her youth living in Santa Fe, where she went to her school, the Academy for Technology and the Classics and her mother worked in a casting firm. Amber has Native American ancestry on her father's side. Both of them are part of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber was adopted to an adoptive mom as such, which is why Amber does not have any known mixed heritage.
